What with my daughter’s birthday, swiftly followed by Christmas a few days later, we are inundated with greetings cards. I always feel sad just chucking them in the recycling, with their lovely thoughtful messages and carefully chosen designs (always a curious insight into people’s tastes!!)
So I thought I’d find a use for them. It’s hardly the recycling idea of the century to cut them up into gift tags, but it is a pretty easy and successful use for them, so out came my trusty Big Shot die cutter with some luggage tag type dies half inched from my mother in law, and voila! Some quick and effective tags!
Now comes the fun bit. To give my tags a personal and unique touch, I used embroidery floss in a contrasting colour, and a darning needle to blanket stitch around the edges. It’s a little time consuming, and you need to be careful not to bend or crease the card, but the result is very cute.
Nothing is complete without a well placed button, so a blob of glue later and 10 minutes to dry gives my tags the Polished Button touch.
A small length of vintage ribbon, and my tags are ready to adorn all manner of gifts and treats. You could even use these as simple tree decorations next year, or perhaps strung onto twine for quick bunting? Oh the possibilities!!
