Book Review: Granny Chic by Dottie Angel and Ted & Agnes
2December 18, 2012 by thepolishedbutton
I bought this book as a gift for christmas, but couldn’t resist having a look through first. As the title suggests, it covers all thing granny chic, and of course comes under the remit of shabby chic, vintage, salvaged and so on.
It looks and feels lovely – the styling and photography is very cool and pretty, with a definite tactile effect.
It is stuffed full of ‘recipes’ for home furnishings, accessories and vintage style bits and pieces. My favourites are the ‘perfectly round cushion’ and the ‘patched and pieced lampshade’ – if my recipient doesn’t mind, I may have to pinch the book back later in the year to try them out!
There’s a few upcycling ideas, clever advice and I like the side notes for extra inspiration.
I did find the writing style a bit flowery for my tastes – everything is jolly and marvellous and a tad on the twee side, but it’s non offensive and rather sweet if that’s your thing. There is a mixture of skill levels and you’ll need some basic sewing knowledge, but it’s certainly a great and inspiring book for anyone interested in vintage, handmade and quirky. I’m sure my lovely lady will enjoy it muchly!

Oooh, I think I saw this in Molly Makes? It looks lovely, might have to get myself one too… ;o)
